Motorway rules•Rule 273
Slowing Down When Leaving Motorways
On leaving the motorway or using a link road between motorways, your speed may be higher than you realise – 50 mph may feel like 30 mph. Check your speedometer and adjust your speed accordingly. Some slip-roads and link roads have sharp bends, so you will need to slow down.
💡Example
When you leave a motorway, your speed can feel lower than it really is, so you must check your speedometer and slow down as needed, especially on bends. For example, you come off the motorway at 70 mph and enter a slip road that quickly curves; even though it feels slow, you glance at the speedometer, see you’re still doing 50 mph, and brake gently to a safer speed before the sharp bend.
