If your vehicle breaks down, your first priority is to keep other road users safe by avoiding causing danger or obstruction. For example, if your car loses power on a busy A-road, you signal and steer carefully to the left, stop as far off the carriageway as possible, switch on your hazard lights, and make sure passengers get out on the left side away from the traffic.
