Emergency VehiclesDifficulty: 1/5
You are approaching a junction controlled by traffic lights when you see an emergency vehicle with flashing blue lights coming up behind you. The traffic light for your lane changes from green to amber while you are still some distance from the white stop line. What should you do?
Explanation
The Highway Code Rule 175 says you MUST stop behind the white stop line unless the light is green. If the light changes to amber before you reach the line, you should brake and stop, provided it is safe to do so. You should not speed up to beat the amber light or cross the stop line when the light is red, even for an emergency vehicle. Instead, stop at the line and allow the emergency vehicle to find a safe way around you.
