Motorway rulesRule 265

Who Cannot Use Right-Hand Lane

This rule is a legal requirement
The right-hand lane of a motorway with three or more lanes MUST NOT be used (except in prescribed circumstances) if you are driving

💡Example

On motorways with three or more lanes, some vehicles are not allowed to use the right-hand lane except in specific situations set by law. For example, a large lorry limited to 60 mph must stay in the left or middle lanes and must not move into the right-hand lane, even if slower traffic is ahead.
