Motorway rulesRule 263

Never Reverse or U-Turn on Motorways

This rule is a legal requirement
You MUST NOT reverse, cross the central reservation, or drive against the traffic flow. If you have missed your exit, or have taken the wrong route, carry on to the next exit.

💡Example

You must not reverse, turn around, cross the central reservation, or drive against the traffic flow on a motorway. If you miss your exit, you must continue to the next one and leave there instead. For example, if you realise too late that your junction is behind you, keep going straight ahead and follow the signs to the next exit rather than stopping or reversing on the carriageway or hard shoulder.
