Motorway rulesRule 262

Staying Alert on Motorways

The monotony of driving on a motorway can make you feel sleepy. To minimise the risk, follow the advice in Rule 91.

💡Example

Long stretches of motorway driving can make you feel drowsy, so you should follow the tiredness advice in Rule 91, such as taking regular breaks and not driving when you’re sleepy. For example, if you start yawning and struggling to concentrate on a late-night motorway journey, you should leave at the next services, have a rest and a caffeine drink, and only continue when you feel properly alert again.
