Motorway rules•Rule 254
Looking Further Ahead on Motorways
Traffic on motorways usually travels faster than on other roads, so you have less time to react. It is especially important to use your mirrors earlier and look much further ahead than you would on other roads.
💡Example
On motorways, traffic moves faster, so you must check your mirrors earlier and look much further ahead to spot hazards in good time. For example, while driving at 70 mph, you regularly check your mirrors and scan far ahead, noticing brake lights appearing several vehicles in front and gently slowing down early, rather than having to brake sharply at the last moment.
