Motorway rules•Rule 255
Motorway Signals Warning of Danger
Motorway signals (see ‘Light signals controlling traffic’) are used to warn you of a danger ahead. For example, there may be an incident, fog, a spillage or road workers on the carriageway which you may not immediately be able to see.
💡Example
Motorway signals are electronic signs and lights that warn you about dangers ahead, such as crashes, fog, spills or roadworks you cannot yet see. For example, you might be driving at 70 mph when you see an overhead sign showing a warning symbol and a lower speed limit because of an accident further ahead, so you slow down in good time and stay alert for stopped traffic or workers on the carriageway.
