Waiting and parkingRule 238

Parking on Yellow and School Lines

This rule is a legal requirement
You MUST NOT wait or park on yellow lines during the times of operation shown on nearby time plates (or zone entry signs if in a Controlled Parking Zone) – see ‘Traffic signs’ and ‘Road markings’. Double yellow lines indicate a prohibition of waiting at any time even if there are no upright signs. You MUST NOT wait or park, or stop to set down and pick up passengers, on school entrance markings (see ‘Road markings’) when upright signs indicate a prohibition of stopping.

💡Example

You must not wait or park on yellow lines during the times shown on nearby signs, and double yellow lines mean no waiting at any time. You also must not stop, even briefly to drop off or pick up passengers, on school entrance markings when signs show stopping is banned. For example, you cannot pull over on double yellow lines outside a shop while you ‘just pop in’, or stop on the zigzag lines outside a school to drop off a child during the prohibited times.
