Driving in adverse weather conditionsRule 237

Sun, Heat and Slippery Roads

Keep your vehicle well ventilated to avoid drowsiness. Be aware that the road surface may become soft or if it rains after a dry spell it may become slippery. These conditions could affect your steering and braking. If you are dazzled by bright sunlight, slow down and if necessary, stop.

💡Example

This rule says you should keep your car ventilated so you don’t get drowsy, and remember that very hot or suddenly wet roads can affect your steering and braking. If bright sunlight dazzles you, you must slow down and stop if needed. For example, on a hot summer day after a long dry spell, it suddenly rains and the road becomes greasy, so you open a window to stay alert, reduce your speed and leave extra space. When you then turn a corner into low, blinding sun, you slow right down and pull over safely until you can see clearly again.
