Vehicle SafetyDifficulty: 3/5
You are approaching a side road with a ‘STOP’ sign and a solid white line across the junction. The road you are joining has poor visibility because of parked vehicles. How must you deal with this junction?
Explanation
The Highway Code Rule 171 states that at a junction with a ‘STOP’ sign and a solid white line you MUST come to a complete stop behind or just before the line, not merely slow down or roll through. You must then wait until you can clearly see that the road is safe and there is a suitable gap in traffic before moving off. Crossing the line without first stopping, or creeping over it to gain a better view before stopping, is unsafe and contrary to the rule.
