Using the road•Rule 171
Stopping at STOP junctions
This rule is a legal requirement
You MUST stop behind the line at a junction with a ‘Stop’ sign and a solid white line across the road. Wait for a safe gap in the traffic before you move off.
💡Example
At a junction with a STOP sign and a solid white line, you must come to a complete stop behind the line and only move off when it is clearly safe. You cannot just slow down and roll through. For example, when approaching a side road with a STOP sign, you stop fully at the line, look carefully for cars, cyclists and pedestrians, and only pull out when there is a clear gap in both directions.
