Road works, level crossings and tramways•Rule 305
Giving Priority to Trams
Always give priority to trams, especially when they signal to pull away from stops, unless it would be unsafe to do so. Remember that they may be carrying large numbers of standing passengers who could be injured if the tram had to make an emergency stop. Look out for people getting off a bus or tram and crossing the road.
💡Example
You must normally let trams go first, especially when they signal to move off from a stop, unless doing so would be unsafe. Trams can be full of standing passengers who could be hurt if the tram has to brake suddenly. For example, if you’re driving alongside a tram that signals to pull away from a stop, you should slow down and let it move off, while also watching for people stepping into the road after getting off the tram.
