Road works, level crossings and tramwaysRule 295

Stopping at Closing Level Crossing Barriers

Crossings without traffic lights. Vehicles should stop and wait at the barrier or gate when it begins to close and not cross until the barrier or gate opens.

💡Example

You must stop and wait when a level crossing barrier or gate starts to close, and only go once it has fully opened again. For example, if you see the barrier at a railway crossing beginning to lower as you approach, you should brake safely, stop before the line, and wait until the barrier rises fully before driving across.
