Rules for pedestrians•Rule 22
Using Pelican Crossings Safely
Pelican crossings. These are signal-controlled crossings operated by pedestrians. Push the control button to activate the traffic signals. When the red figure shows, do not cross. When a steady green figure shows, check the traffic has stopped then cross with care. When the green figure begins to flash you should not start to cross. If you have already started you should have time to finish crossing safely.
💡Example
Pelican crossings have traffic signals that pedestrians control by pressing a button. Only cross when the green figure is steady, and ensure traffic has stopped. For example, if you're at a busy city intersection, press the button and wait for the green figure. Once it appears, look both ways to confirm cars have halted, then cross carefully. If the green figure starts flashing while you're crossing, continue to the other side safely.
