General rules, techniques and advice for all drivers and riders•Rule 137
Lane Usage on Dual Carriageways
On a two-lane dual carriageway you should stay in the left-hand lane. Use the right-hand lane for overtaking or turning right. After overtaking, move back to the left-hand lane when it is safe to do so.
💡Example
On a two-lane dual carriageway, keep to the left lane unless overtaking or turning right. For example, if you're driving on a dual carriageway and need to overtake a slower vehicle, you should move to the right lane to pass, and then return to the left lane once it's safe.
