General rules, techniques and advice for all drivers and riders•Rule 136
Using Lanes on Wide Roads
Where a single carriageway has four or more lanes, use only the lanes that signs or markings indicate.
💡Example
On roads with four or more lanes, follow the lane markings or signs to choose the correct lane. For example, if you are driving on a single carriageway with five lanes and the signs indicate that the left two lanes are for turning left only, you must not use these lanes if you intend to go straight ahead.
