Using the roadRule 182

Safe Left Turns and Overtaking

Use your mirrors and give a left-turn signal well before you turn left. Do not overtake just before you turn left and watch out for traffic coming up on your left before you make the turn, especially if driving a large vehicle. Cyclists, motorcyclists and other road users in particular may be hidden from your view.

💡Example

Before turning left, check your mirrors, signal in good time and never overtake just before the turn, as smaller road users can be hidden on your left. Always look carefully for cyclists, motorcyclists and other vehicles alongside you. For example, when approaching a left turn on a busy city street, you check your mirrors, see a cyclist coming up on your left and wait behind them instead of turning across their path. You keep your left signal on, let the cyclist pass the junction safely, then complete your turn.
