Zutobi theory test app review: is it worth it? (2026)
Updated •4 min read
Zutobi is worth trying if you want a game-style app with a Highway Code summary, but its UK listing does not say how much is free, so test it before paying. Checked on the UK App Store listing on 27 October 2026.

What we checked
Zutobi AB's app had 9,665 UK ratings at 4.6 stars and was last updated on 6 October 2026 (version 4.5.86). Facts in the table come from the listing and Apple's public app lookup data, read on 27 October 2026. Prices, ratings and limits change, so check the listing again before you buy; the reviews are under Ratings and Reviews on that page. theorytest.ai is independent and not affiliated with the DVSA, and we do not claim DVSA-licensed questions.
Where Zutobi is better
Zutobi is built like a game, with a leaderboard to challenge friends and a summarised, easy-to-read Highway Code with road signs. If you stay motivated by points and streaks, that is something a plain practice site does not give you.
What reviewers complain about
Reviewers' own words from low-rated UK reviews we read on 25 October 2026:
The one and only question you get to answer before being forced to buy the upgrade is "Are you excited to get your driving license?" — Zutobi, 20 December 2019 (App Store listing)
12 months later even after deleting the app it is still taking £4.49 per week subscription. — Zutobi, 23 April 2022 (App Store listing)
Most reviewers are not against paying. They are against not knowing the terms first, so read the purchase screen and the renewal terms before you pay. If you do subscribe, here is how to cancel a theory test app subscription.
Who should pick which
Pick Zutobi if you like gamified learning and are happy to subscribe once you have seen what is free. Pick theorytest.ai if you want a free 10-question diagnostic before any account, and a one-off £12.99 option rather than a renewing plan.
The real multiple-choice part has 50 questions with a pass mark of 43 (gov.uk), and gov.uk has a free practice test whichever app you choose. For every app side by side, see which theory test apps are actually free and theory test apps compared.
Before you pay for any theory test app
- Open the in-app purchases list on the store page and note every price.
- Check whether the purchase renews. If it does, set a reminder for the day before.
- Answer ten questions free and see whether a paywall appears.
- Check hazard perception separately, because you must pass both parts (gov.uk: theory test).
Try theorytest.ai free
Take the free 10-question diagnostic: no payment and no account, and it shows which topics to work on first. Our plans are on the pricing page.
