Motorway RulesDifficulty: 1/5
You break down on a motorway and manage to stop on the hard shoulder. When is it acceptable to leave your vehicle in this position?
Explanation
The Highway Code Rule 242 states you MUST NOT leave your vehicle where it is in a dangerous position or causes unnecessary obstruction. On a motorway, if you break down you should move fully onto the hard shoulder and as far to the left as possible, then arrange prompt recovery. Leaving a vehicle partly in a running lane or unnecessarily obstructing the carriageway is dangerous and against the Code.
