Worded warning sign: a red-bordered triangle with the word "Ford"

Worded warning sign

A worded warning sign is a red-bordered warning triangle that names the hazard in words instead of a symbol, such as "Ford". Read the word, slow down and be ready for the hazard it names. Like every warning triangle, it tells you about danger ahead rather than giving an order.

Official Highway Code caption: “Worded warning sign.”

Listed under “Mostly triangular” in The Highway Code: traffic signs (GOV.UK). For every sign in more detail, see the Department for Transport’s Know your traffic signs.
