Rules for pedestrians•Rule 30
Crossing Roads Safely with Islands
Where there are no controlled crossing points available it is advisable to cross where there is an island in the middle of the road. Use the Green Cross Code (see Rule 7) to cross to the island and then stop and use it again to cross the second half of the road.
💡Example
When there are no pedestrian crossings, it's safer to cross at a road island using the Green Cross Code. For instance, if you're on a busy high street without a zebra or pelican crossing, walk to a nearby traffic island, check both directions for traffic, cross to the island, pause, and then cross the remaining half of the road safely.
