Waiting and parking•Rule 246
Parking Rules for Heavy Goods Vehicles
This rule is a legal requirement
Goods vehicles. Vehicles with a maximum laden weight of over 7.5 tonnes (including any trailer) MUST NOT be parked on a verge, pavement or any land situated between carriageways, without police permission. The only exception is when parking is essential for loading and unloading, in which case the vehicle MUST NOT be left unattended.
💡Example
Very heavy goods vehicles (over 7.5 tonnes, including any trailer) must not park on verges, pavements or the land between carriageways unless the police have given permission, and even then they can only stop there for essential loading or unloading without being left unattended. For example, a large lorry delivering furniture to a shop must not be left parked on the pavement while the driver goes for a break, but the driver may briefly stop there and stay with the vehicle while workers quickly unload the goods.
