Driving in adverse weather conditionsRule 233

Wind and Large Vehicles Safety

In very windy weather your vehicle may be affected by turbulence created by large vehicles. Motorcyclists are particularly affected, so keep well back from them when they are overtaking a high-sided vehicle.

💡Example

In very windy weather, large vehicles can create turbulence that pushes or pulls nearby vehicles, especially motorbikes. You should stay well back from motorcyclists when they are overtaking high-sided vehicles so they have space to correct their balance. For example, on a windy dual carriageway, if you see a motorcyclist starting to pass a lorry, ease off the accelerator and drop further back so you’re not close behind if they wobble or are blown sideways.
