Driving in adverse weather conditions•Rule 232
Windy Weather and High-Sided Vehicles
High-sided vehicles are most affected by windy weather, but strong gusts can also blow a car, cyclist, motorcyclist or horse rider off course. This can happen on open stretches of road exposed to strong crosswinds, or when passing bridges or gaps in hedges.
💡Example
In strong winds, tall vehicles and lighter road users like cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders can be blown sideways, especially where crosswinds are strongest. You must be prepared to adjust your speed and give them extra room. For example, when driving over an exposed bridge on a windy day, you slow down and leave a larger gap when overtaking a lorry or cyclist in case a sudden gust pushes them off course.
