General rules, techniques and advice for all drivers and riders•Rule 133
Safely Changing Lanes
If you need to change lane, first use your mirrors and if necessary take a quick sideways glance to make sure you will not force another road user to change course or speed. When it is safe to do so, signal to indicate your intentions to other road users and when clear, move over.
💡Example
Before changing lanes, always check your mirrors and glance sideways to ensure you won't disrupt other drivers. For example, when overtaking a slower vehicle on a dual carriageway, check your mirrors, glance over your shoulder, signal your intent, and only move when it's safe to do so.
