General rules, techniques and advice for all drivers and riders•Rule 128
Overtaking on Broken White Lines
Double white lines where the line nearest to you is broken. This means you may cross the lines to overtake if it is safe, provided you can complete the manoeuvre before reaching a solid white line on your side. White direction arrows on the road indicate that you need to get back onto your side of the road.
💡Example
When the line nearest to you is broken, you can overtake if it's safe and you can complete it before the line becomes solid. For instance, if you're driving on a country road with broken white lines on your side, you may overtake a slow-moving tractor as long as you finish overtaking before the line turns solid and it's safe to do so.
