Understanding Broken White Centre Lines

A broken white line. This marks the centre of the road. When this line lengthens and the gaps shorten, it means that there is a hazard ahead. Do not cross it unless you can see the road is clear and wish to overtake or turn off.

💡Example

A broken white line marks the road's centre. If the line becomes longer with shorter gaps, it warns of a nearby hazard. For example, while driving on a rural road, you notice the broken white lines on the road centre become longer with shorter gaps. This indicates a sharp bend ahead, so you stay in your lane to navigate the bend safely.
