General rules, techniques and advice for all drivers and riders•Rule 118
Emergency Braking and Wheel Control
In an emergency. Brake immediately. Try to avoid braking so harshly that you lock your wheels. Locked wheels can lead to loss of control.
💡Example
In an emergency, brake immediately but avoid braking so hard that your wheels lock, as this can cause you to lose control. For example, if a child runs into the road unexpectedly, press the brake firmly but steadily, allowing the anti-lock braking system (ABS) to prevent wheel lock and help maintain steering control.
