Rules for users of powered wheelchairs and mobility scootersRule 43

Visibility and Lighting for Mobility Scooters

This rule is a legal requirement
You MUST follow the same rules about using lights, indicators and horns as for other road vehicles, if your vehicle is fitted with them. At night, lights MUST be used. Be aware that other road users may not see you and you should make yourself more visible – even in the daytime and also at dusk – by, for instance, wearing a reflective jacket or reflective strips on the back of the vehicle.

💡Example

If your mobility scooter has lights, indicators, or a horn, you must use them just like other road vehicles, especially using lights at night. For instance, if you're using a mobility scooter to go to the shops in the evening, ensure your lights are on and consider wearing a reflective jacket to help other road users see you better.
