Using the road•Rule 197
Pelican crossings with central islands
This rule is a legal requirement
Pelican crossings which go straight across the road are one crossing, even when there is a central island. You MUST wait for pedestrians who are crossing from the other side of the island.
💡Example
At a pelican crossing that goes straight across the road, it counts as one single crossing even if there is a central island, so you must let all pedestrians finish crossing. You must wait for people coming from the far side of the island as well as those from your side. For example, if the lights turn green for you but someone is still walking across from the other side of the island, you must stay stopped until they have safely reached the pavement.
